Windows Despooler

Hosted in the Windows environment, this new ‘Advances' de-spooler services print requests from ‘Classic Advances'.

Designed to replace the original de-spooler with an emphasis on efficiency, speed and tolerance to unforeseen situations.

Using a ‘Thoroughbred Web Service' installed on the Advances Server, the de-spooler listens for print requests generated by ‘Advances'.

Three document formats are currently available as Source Templates:-
  • Microsoft word.doc

  • Microsoft word.pdf.doc (Standard word file saved as a Pdf format file instead of a word.doc)

  • Adobe.pdf Templates and files.


    • Using the Templates, the defined data and text fields are populated with the information provided by the
    requester in a similar manner to a MailMerge system, the resulting documents being printed (if specified)
    and archived to a defined respository (Directory).
    Cost savings can be achieved by the use of Pdf format files, archiving and displaying instead of printing,
    documents are always available for printing at any time if required.


Printing Control: definable parameters may be specified:-

  • Number of copies

  • Printer name (windows network name)

  • Source document Path and Name

  • Target document Path and Name

  • Print and Archive or just Archive

  • Choice of Paper Tray (Word.doc only)

De-Spooler tolerance features include:-

  • Checks the existence of the Source Document before attempting to use it (no crash)

  • Checks the existence of the Target Directory before attempting to use it (no crash)

  • Checks the existence of the printer before attempting to use it (no crash)

  • Check the status of the Printer before attempting to use it, e.g. Offline, Paper Out (no crash)

  • None matching fields are ignored (no crash)

Advantages:-

  • Many times faster than Classic Printer Despooler (Estimated up to 10 times the speed)

  • Despooler can point to a common data source (i.e. one de-spooler for multiple installations)

  • Can be auto started upon Server reboot


  • Document not printing !!!
